The Drechtsteden region

The only way forward is to build something that was never built before

The Drechtsteden region is located in the middle of the Maritime Delta in the Netherlands: an area that consists of 6 neighbouring municipalities (the city of Dordrecht, Alblasserdam, Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, Papendrecht, Sliedrecht, Zwijndrecht and soon Hardinxveld-Giessendam) that are all interconnected by rivers and has in total 270.000 inhabitants. It's the only region in the Netherlands with an own 'Drecht council'

The region is home to almost 1.000 companies in water and environment, maritime construction, shipbuilding, manufacturing and sea river shipping. This includes global leaders like Boskalis, Royal IHC, Heerema Fabrication Group, Damen Shipyards Group, Oceanco and Fokker Technologies. Their clients trust them, because they combine practical innovation with superb execution.

That is why they have created the Palm Islands and helped Venice and New Orleans deal with floods. Why they have given Europe its modern inland shipping fleets and build some of the world's finest luxury yachts. And why the government supports bold projects and collaborations with business and knowledge institutions, such as the European project BEGIN, the international event Dare 2 Cross and the Sustainability Factory (Duurzaamheidsfabriek).

Our regional teamwork is not only of tremendous value to our clients and citizens. It also contributes to global challenges such as a climate change, population growth, and the search for sustainable energy.
